Jonathan Sabin CEO As the principal of Vortex Business Solutions, a full service business acceleration consultancy, web development and visual communications company, Jonathan consults with startups, entrepreneurs, and mature companies interested in increasing their client base and advancing their business.
Jonathan believes that everyone has a passion that drives their vision, yet few businesses have the entire team needed to become successful. Vortex Business Solutions emerged with the sole purpose of helping businesses make their vision possible. Drive More Business to your Business!
Jonathan first began building computers as a teenager in 1968 utilizing old IBM 960′s, and the journey has never ended. In 1996, he launched his first business E-commerce website. From System Administration to Web Dev. and Internet Marketing, he has logged 25,000+ hours in computer and web development and 50,000+ hours in the business world having made over 850 bi-weekly payrolls.
Jonathan has had business ownership in everything from jewelry and colored stone retailing to restaurant partnerships, to a design and photographic studio, to PR and advertising in NYC. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 1978 and worked in industrial commercial photography throughout North America for several decades. Vortex Business Solutions represents the culmination of 41 years of business experience.

Marc Strauch Director, Business Strategy Marc Strauch brings more than 25 years of strategic planning, marketing and leadership working with Fortune 100 and early stage technology companies.
A marketing communications strategy consultant to Microsoft from 1996 to the present, he helped launch several versions of Windows, Office, Tablet PC, SharePoint Server and Enterprise Project Management as well as help build Microsoft’s Business Value team enabling technologists to make pre-deployment financial-driven business cases to CXOs. Marketing communications clients have included Cisco, Intel, Tata and Wipro and through Microsoft, many of the world’s leading consumer and industrial brands.
He has co-founded three software startups – online video distribution, search+social and enterprise applications – and has consulted on business plan development, marketing and go-to-market execution with a variety of early stage B2B and B2C software, consumer and green-tech companies.
Marc has been a photographer and documentary and corporate filmmaker with training at UCLA and AFI and has a passion for creating consciousness-based media. His formal training is in strategic planning and organizational management with a graduate degree in urban planning and public policy.
Molly Cook Art Director Molly Cook is a Professional Art Director and Graphic Designer at Vortex Business Solutions.
Molly’s expertise has culminated in 35 years of experience and includes skills such as developing creative identities, graphic and marketing solutions, and meeting individual clients’ needs. She is passionate about providing her clients with the tools to promote their products or services.
As an art director for Vortex, Molly is able to look at the entire brand identity, across the board, in all venues from print to social media. With the extensive hands-on graphic design experience she understands not only the visual aspect but also the technical side, optimizing the clients’ overall experience.
When Molly is not working, she enjoys a variety of wellness activities such as yoga, running, hiking and spending time with her family and friends. Her home is her sanctuary. She loves to entertain, especially on the deck — when the weather is cool and the fire is roaring! This scene is complete when her daughters and their families are there to share time.
What Molly loves most about working at VBS is being a part of a team with a vision and working on projects that are truly cutting edge.

Pamela Sabin CFO
Karrington Mohr Office & Project Manager Karrington Mohr is a Project Manager and Photographic Assistant at Vortex Business Solutions. Her skills include organization, organization, and more organization!
Karrington’s passions are art, music, and service to others. When she isn’t working at Vortex, Karrington enjoys watching Netflix, painting and singing.
What Karrington loves most about working at VBS is never knowing what will be on her day’s agenda. She believes that everyone at VBS is a team player and is more than happy to lend a helping hand.
As a photographic assistant, she takes care of photo shoot set ups, post-photographic and post-video production using only the latest versions of the best software (Lightroom, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro X). Like Margie, Karrington also assists in the Vortex Billing and Accounting System.
“I help manage individual projects to ensure that our clients’ requests are taken care of in full and in a timely fashion.”
Grant’s web interests are in scalable and large system eCommerce platforms and working with CMS’s such as Drupal, WordPress, ABC, etc. He has additional experience in the areas of API integration, data amalgamation and scraping, and numerical optimization.
Grant is passionate about new experiences, adventure, and the environment and when he is not working, he likes to travel. His favorite place in the world is Central America; however, he has been through more than 30 countries and has lived in both Nicaragua and South Korea. He also spends a significant amount of time doing art (robotic and algorithmic drawing at the moment), managing the UI Solar Car Team, and when back home in California, he surfs daily.
Grant thinks VBS is a fantastic place to work. He loves the challenging projects and building commercial grade websites, and he very much appreciates Jonathan’s motivation as the owner of Vortex Business Solutions. He would also like to give two thumbs up to the great level of flexibility at VBS, as this was extremely helpful for him while he was completing a MS at the University of Iowa.

Justin is most passionate about sports and technology, and when he is not working, he enjoys being at home, hanging out with friends and family, attending or watching sporting events, and playing video games.
Justin loves working at VBS because the team members are awesome!

He has experience in just about any CMS or web platform popular in web development. This, along with extensive list of coding languages at his disposal, means that he can develop unique and elegant solutions to suit any and all goals of the client.
Alek is passionate about collecting yo-yos, and when he is not working, he enjoys Bikejoring, which is bike riding with dogs helping to pull you along. Alek’s favorite part of working at Vortex Business Solutions is listening to all of Jonathan’s stories and little life lessons.

Margie Roth Accounting & Project Manager Margie Roth is an Office Manager, working with accounting and billing at Vortex Business Solutions.
Through her work, Margie is passionate about creating a positive change in the world. When she is not working, Margie enjoys cooking with her husband and watching birds come to the feeders around her house.
Margie loves the fast pace and challenges she is faced with at VBS. She also loves seeing a project begin with an initial concept and end up with a fantastic final end product.
Margie thinks her colleagues are great to work with and that each has his/her own area of expertise. At Vortex, Margie helps organize and keep track of the Vortex Team members’ time spent on individual projects.

Karen S. Lamer Web Designer Karen S. Lamer is a Project Manager and Web Designer at Vortex Business Solutions. Her skills include writing, editing/formatting, HTML, some CSS, WordPress, and Adobe Photoshop.
As a member of the Vortex team, Karen helps bring a creative perspective to every project she’s on. Upon recently returning to the world of web-development, she contributes to some programming at Vortex. She also helps manage internal projects in regards to web development, and writes and formats some site content.
Karen is most passionate about traveling as often as she can. Whether it’s national or abroad, she is ready for adventure. Her other passions include writing poetry and fiction, listening to and playing music, and web development.
During her free time Karen enjoys either going to local music shows, reading about world history, or cooking up a new recipe. As far as creativity allows, she can usually be found putting ideas into writing.

Tess Butterman Social Media Specialist Tess Butterman is a Social Media Specialist at Vortex Business Solutions. Her job skills include ensuring website traffic with optimal Social Media Marketing and writing.
While at the office, Tess manages social media marketing for Vortex as well as clients’ websites on Google, Yelp, Facebook, and LinkedIn. She also helps clients market their brand through social media networks.
Among Tess’s passions are journalism and creative writing, cooking gluten-free recipes, biking on trails around the Midwest, and traveling overseas to visit family in Europe. During her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors(weather permitting!), spending time with family and friends, and frequenting all the delicious restaurants Iowa City has to offer.

Sean Matthews Development Engineer Sean Matthews is a Web Developer at Vortex Business Solutions. His job skills include HTML, CSS, WordPress and PHP. At Vortex Sean helps create websites, often powered by WordPress to help meet business needs and goals.
Sean is passionate not only about technology but also the marketplace of ideas that technology makes available to us. When Sean is not working, he is most likely tinkering with a python script or in a lively debate over social media.

Cody Bontrager Development Engineer Cody Bontrager is a Web Developer at Vortex Business Solutions. His job skills include HTML, CSS, WordPress, Joomla, Photoshop, and Indesign.
Cody is most passionate about sports, technology, music, and the Green Bay Packers. When he’s not working at Vortex, he enlists his free time outdoors with camping and being active. He also enjoys spending time with friends and family and watching sporting events.
As a Web Developer at Vortex, Cody helps create and modify websites with different web technologies. With an innovative mind and programming experience, he’ll work until the client’s goals are met.

Buddy Spirit Leader | Head of Security Buddy is the Spirit Leader and Head of Security at Vortex Business Solutions. His skills include begging for food, being adorable and soft to touch, and lightening everyone’s day with his doggy nuzzles. Buddy’s loving and curious personality helps bring laughter and happiness into the office environment and keeps stress levels at a minimum during intense deadlines.
Buddy was rescued by Jonathan and Pamela Sabin after the 2008 flood that devastated Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.
