Part 2: Organically Growing Your Email List

Now that you have your email list up and running, what’s the next step?
Welcome back to Part 2 of the Vortex Marketing Blog’s series: How to Grow and Maintain a Healthy Email List. This month, we’ll cover how to create funnels to attract new, potential leads and encourage them to sign up for your email list.

Website Sign Up Forms
One method of adding new prospects to your mailing list is to create an opt-in form on your website. Users that are visiting your website already have an interest in what you provide, so a web form is a great way to capitalize on this. This will allow users to sign-up for your list, and in return, you deliver them a whitepaper or some sort of incentive.

Always make sure you advertise the benefit of joining your list. Something like “Sign Up For Our Free 7 Tips to Be More Productive!” will let users know that when they sign up, they will receive something beneficial. New users need to know there’s some sort of advantage they’re gaining by joining, otherwise they are more likely to ignore the form and go about their business.

Prospect Referrals
Another method to grow your list is to offer incentives to your current subscribers if they can refer new ones. Here’s what this looks like: create a special page on your website that includes a sign-up form just for referrals. Make sure to include a “Referrer Name” field in this form so you can tell who sent them. Then, send out an email to your most loyal subscribers offering them a discount or a special incentive if they can refer someone new to your list. Make sure you include a link to the new page you created.

The referred subscribers then sign-up through your new form and you reward their referrers. The new subscribers get to join a great email list, your most loyal get rewarded, and you grow your list. Everyone wins! Also, the new subscribers you get from this method are more likely to stick around for the long haul, as they were recommended by a loyal client.

Advertising Materials
The final method covered today is including an email sign up link in all of your advertising materials. Whether this is a video ad, business card, or online ad, getting this sign-up form in front of as many potential customers as possible is the goal.

Make sure this is another unique URL so you can track where these new subscribers came from. Google has a free tool for building unique tracking URLs that can be found here: https://ga-dev-tools.appspot.com/campaign-url-builder/. When you look at your Google Analytics to see where users came from when they signed up for your list, this URL builder will let you know which campaign and specific ad sent that user there.

Come back next time where we will go over how to capitalize on your email list and convert your followers into paying clients!
